Combining Reverse Osmosis Systems with Water Ionizers

More and more people are beginning to consider that the “perfect water” system would combine the purity of Reverse Osmosis (R/O) and the tremendous benefits provided by alkaline, ionized water. Historically this has not been easily achieved for a variety of reasons. The experts at IonWays have solved the problem of combining these two phenomenal water technologies. Now you can have perfectly clean and perfectly healthy water!

The Issues with RO

Reverse Osmosis is by far the most popular water treatment technology in use around the world today. R/O utilizes a technology called nano-filtration (typically .009 micron) to physically filter and remove virtually all suspended and dissolved material in water. To put a micron into perspective: a postage stamp is more than 25,000 microns long, the eye of the typical needle is usually 749 microns wide, a human hair is 40 to 120 microns in diameter, a grain of salt is about 70 microns across.  The smallest particle visible to the naked eye is about 30-40 microns. RO filters to 9/1000th of a single micron. The quality of R/O membranes vary but typically between 90% and 98% of all suspended materials (good and bad) are removed and flushed down the drain (see diagram below).

R/O and Water Ionization are often thought of as polar opposites in terms of their effect on the water.  R/O water is typically acidic and virtually mineral free while ionized water is high in pH and rich in alkalizing minerals. The negative impacts of more acid in the body are obvious and R/O does not help with this delicate alkaline balance. Furthermore, some health experts feel that mineral-free water can be harmful and actually lead to de-mineralization of the body. Pure water molecules attach to anything they contact and flush them from the body. The flushing that occurs could include beneficial alkaline minerals, which is detrimental to the alkaline balance..
The good news with R/O is the fact that virtually all dangerous contaminants are removed so you get virtually pure water.  There are however some very difficult issues with R/O – especially when you attempt to mate it with an ionizer. First , in addition to removing all the contaminants, R/O removes all the naturally occurring minerals from the water. Ionization needs the minerals to work, so an ionizer will not work on RO treated water. Secondly, R/O membranes process a very small volume of water and need a storage tank for the water so it is available when you need it – limiting the amount of water available to you. Additionally these tanks typically have pressure issues – they often will not create enough pressure to run an ionizer. Lastly traditional R/O wastes a considerable amount of water.

The Solution:  Remineralize the R/O water before Ionization

The water experts at IonWays have created systems and products to take advantage of the best of R/O – contaminant free water - by installing it as a pre-filter before the ionizer. To make it possible to ionize pure R/O water, IonWays experts have perfected re-mineralization technologies to add a healthy blend of inorganic and organic calcium, magnesium and 70+ trace elements to the water after R/O treatment. Our unique and proprietary remineralizer is a proprietary blend of organic and inorganic minerals that also provides over 70 organic trace elements. Historically this has not been easily achieved for a variety of reasons. The experts at IonWays have solved the problem of combining these two phenomenal water technologies.

The smallest particle visible to the naked eye is about 30 -40 microns. RO filters to 9/1000th of a single micron. The quality of R/O membranes vary but typically between 90% and 98% of all suspended materials (good and bad) are removed and flushed down the drain.

Furthermore, some health experts feel that mineral-free water can be harmful and actually lead to de -mineralization of the body. Pure water molecules attach to anything they contact and flush them from the body. The flushing that occurs could include beneficial alkaline minerals, which is detrimental to the alkaline balance.

The good news with R/O is the fact that virtually all dangerous contaminants are removed so you get virtually pure water.  There are however some very difficult issues with R/O - especially when you attempt to mate it with an ionizer. First, in addition to removing all the contaminants, R/O removes all the naturally occurring minerals from the water. Ionization needs the minerals to work, so an ionizer will not work on RO treated water. Secondly, R/O membranes process a very small volume of water and need a storage tank for the water so it is available when you need it - limiting the amount of water available to you. Annual replacement of the filters ($150 retail) and bi-annual replacement of the R/O membrane (is recommended).

How much water will this system produce?  R/O storage tanks consist of a storage tank with internal rubber bladder. They are rated by the volume of their external shell, but the actual amount of water that can be extracted from the tank is much less.  On a 5 gallon tank, approximately 3.2 gallons are typically available. The typical tank size used in a residential R/O is 3.2 gallons which has an extraction capacity of only around 1.5 gallons. Since water ionizers split alkaline and the acidic streams, one can expect to draw about .84 gallons of alkaline water and .66 of acidic before the tank runs dry with a traditional sized tank of 3.2 gal. Therefore, the IonWays R/O system has been developed t o include a high capacity 6 gallon storage tank to optimize the amount of alkaline water produced.

The "Total" Solution: The Ion Ways Re -mineralizing R/O System

By now you are probably thinking: "How can I easily combine the tremendous benefits of RO and ionization"? This has not been an easy question to answer - until now. Introducing the revolutionary IonWays Re -mineralizing R/O System! IonWays has dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort into the design and development of the most sophisticated and convenient R/O system with re-mineralization on the market today. The IonWays system incorporates a high volume 100 gallon per day R/O membrane with an oversized storage tank (6 gallons). System comes complete with instructions. Wrench needed for installation.

Measurements of the RO system: 13"w x 17"d x 6"h

What if I already have my own R/O?

In virtually every case, existing R/O owners do not need to buy a new system and can combine their R/O with the Remineralizing System and an Emco Tech ionizer. You simply purchase a Remineralizing cartridge and housing (no R/O system) and install it downstream of your existing R/O. The only “bottleneck” in this system is obtaining the correct water pressure when using an R/O that has a storage tank (which is almost every case).

In addition to the volume of water that can be drawn from the R/O tank, the flow rate/pressure is also critical for optimal performance of your ionizer. Virtually all R/O tanks have an air valve which is used to increase the pressure around the stored water and “squeeze” it out of the tank. The pressure can be increased by using a simple bicycle pump. To maximize the flow and pressure follow these steps:

1. Turn off the water to the R/O system
2. Turn on faucet and empty the storage tank
3. Check the pressure on the air valve on the R/O storage tank
4. Increase the pressure: Not to exceed 9 psi.
DO NOT OVER INFLATE THE TANK
5. Turn on flow of water to R/O system and wait for tank to fill
6. Begin to enjoy the healthiest water on the planet
